I finished my latest piece of art. I will show you the basic watercolor picture and then the one adding digital highlighting/blending effects so you can see the difference. It's amazing all the mistakes or effects I can fix/add with my digital art program. It's a lot of fun.

Acorn Fairy Tutorial
Not that I should be writing any tutorials by now, since I'm still new to all of this, but I wanted to show you my artwork in the creative process so here you go!

Acorn Fairy Tutorial )

Acorn Fairy Digital
Using my digital art program, I added glowing highlights to the acorns and her wings using an airbrush technique. I also blended her pants and skin using the airbrush. I was able to right click using the color selection tool to automatically get the exact color match for anywhere on the painting! I used an embossing tool for the wavy pattern in her wings and a special effect sparkling trail.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial!

New Art
Here are two new pieces I finished in the past 2 days. The birthday witch is in honor of my birthday and because I wanted to paint a witch that wasn't necessarily Halloween style. Both are water color ACEO's (4x6, etc) on 140 lb cold press paper.

"Harvest Goddess"
My Mom's Birthday is in a few days and I created this piece for her based off of a photo taken of her in an orange grove pregnant with me! You can see it just inked first, and then colored later. If I ever feel like it, I could print the ink version out again and color it different. :)

Schmart Art!
I am really excited that I'm getting back into my art. Digital art is going rather slow, so I decided to look into watercolor! I have always been reluctant to try watercolor because I felt I would not have the kind of control that I would want to have when painting.

Well....that was before I discovered WATER COLOR PENCILS!

Watercolor pencil

You use them like colored pencils and draw with them, then add a touch of water and *PRESTO* you have an instant watercolor painting! I bought a starter kit and I'm pretty proud with how well I'm picking it up.

I'm looking into learning to improve my skill to the levels of the two artists I'm listing below. I also love fantasy art, but I don't feel that I will limit myself to any genre.

Carmen Keys

and

Molly Harrison

The really neat thing is that both these ladies live in Northern California! Maybe I will meet them someday. I really like that Carmen included a tutorial on her website about how she paints and draws. I'm picking up techniques.

Now if I can just sneak in my watercolor paints and paper into work...

;)
